How the Coronavirus ruined Milan Fashion Week

Fashion weeks, although glamorous events, can very easily morph into vehicles for communicable diseases. And so when news broke that the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in northern Italy was intensifying, Giorgio Armani announced that he was canceling his fall 2020 runway show, and livestreaming it behind closed doors instead.

Both Hugo Boss and Dolce & Gabbana went on to show on Sunday afternoon, however. But the National Chamber of Italian Fashion canceled its closing awards event meant to take place on Sunday night. Michael Kors was also forced to cancel its Milan–based event celebrating the launch of its 007 capsule collection on Sunday night.
